The Full STEAM Ahead Difference

It’s easy to associate Full STEAM Ahead with teaching some of the coolest tech and arts lessons in town. Frankly, that’s not an association we mind! However, our programs are built on more than simply teaching kids cool stuff that they may or may not need one day. Full STEAM Ahead is built upon a culture of grit, pride in one’s work, creativity, and risk-taking. Our unique camps and classes all embody this mindset through the use of our very own “Maker Traits”

The Maker Traits

Perseverance

Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead students learn and practice perseverance daily by engaging in challenging activities and learning new skills that will help them become smarter, stronger academically, and more well-rounded individuals. Instructors at Full STEAM Ahead have high expectations for all students, and understand that with the right supports and the right passion, all students can learn.

Fearless Problem Solving

There is no problem too big that it can’t be solved. At Full STEAM Ahead, we emphasize that problem solving is a process. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is not. Sometimes we solve problems right away, sometimes it takes days, weeks, months, or even years. However, there are no problems too big to be solved. Fearless problem solvers approach every problem with this attitude and don’t back down from challenges. They are not afraid of too much work, but are realistic about limitations due to budget, time, and current abilities.

Idea Generation

Ideas are what makes the world go round. To keep the world moving forward, however, we need to be able to generate new ideas. Coming up with great ideas is hard! If it was easy, everybody would be a famous inventor or engineer. However, like other skills we can practice, learn, and get better at it. Just because we came up with an idea doesn’t mean it’s a great one, and most ideas need to be adjusted many times in order to become great. There’s nothing wrong with trying out any type of idea because we rarely know how it will work out until we’ve tried it.

Self-guided learning

We teach students to be responsible for their own learning. Essential to learning is figuring out how to teach oneself, and Full STEAM Ahead students learn to evaluate their own deficits and search out knowledge to make them a more capable person. We live in a time when information is accessible to anyone who knows where to look. Our students learn and practice the essential skills of identifying, locating, and acquiring this information.
